A website is a means of communication between a user and the organisation holder of the website, for instance a corporation. The website provides the user with contact information and, in the case of a corporation, state and structure, along with product descriptions and information about the corporation itself.

Along with this, the user may be able to fill out formulars and press buttons in order to do computations or send messages to the organisation.

The website, to the user, is a means of searching for information. Most users have a definitive purpose when they enter a website and too much flash and bling, when it is deminishing the available information, only irritates. Of course a website should be graphical and look affluent but you must not forget the purpose of a website, to confer information to the user.

As an example of structure we do differently, it is the contact information. It is, if nothing else, the most important part of the website and it is not done very well in present website designs. The adress of the company is fine if you want to send a letter or you have to go to a meeting there, but it is standard. The real contact information is electronic, but a natty little repry form, that jumbles the whole thing in the hands of the company, really is not the thing. You should have a selection of email adresses, maybe along with a couple of passport photos of your employees. That way people can get in touch with the right instance, and do it with a properly styled letter.

Graphics are necessary, but the website should not be just a posterstand. They are often hard to make, but luckily there are plenty of commercial bureaus where you can get professional graphics easily.
